A blog from Michelle, a Community Support Worker in our Supported Living service…
---
Michelle here! Thank you for taking the time to read my very first staff blog.
I’d like to take the opportunity to bring you some highlights from the last few months from over in our corner of OL4, and introduce you to some of the fantastic people I support alongside my brilliant teammates.
First up, we were delighted to welcome back our bright-eyed girl Catherine after she had a short spell living near family in Southport. We’ve spent sunny days outside and the not-so-sunny days taking part in activities inside. Check out these sparkly dragonfly glasses Catherine made and is modelling – she didn’t want to take them off!
On another lovely day we had an afternoon out in Saddleworth enjoying a picnic, a trip to Grandpa Greene’s and a walk along the canal in Uppermill.
Back to our garden and it was all smiles when we spotted the first sign of edible life on the strawberry plant we rescued from a planter during lockdown. Well done to residents Adam, Andrew and Paula for watering them when needed.
Takeaway and movie nights have been popular with different films and food chosen by residents. Andrew is pictured below showing off our new telly, which means we can have music on and watch films together more often. We were over the moon when at one of these gatherings recently, Paul chose to eat his pie and chips outside with a housemate. Sitting down like this is a massive achievement in itself let alone having tea with someone other than staff. Well done Paul, you’re amazing!
We’ve also been lucky enough to get an electronic dart board and a multi-use table football/air hockey console. Andrew and Paula are keen communal lounge users (and VERY keen competitors!).
We want to say thanks to our Supported Living Resource Manager Pauline who has helped so much in improving and upgrading the facilities in our communal area. In fact we showed them off recently when we had a family and friends event with food, balloons, a tombola and raffle. Those flowers were well-deserved Pauline.
All in all, a successful few months with lots to come before the end of 2022. Me and the team look forward to sharing more with you soon.
Thanks again for reading!
