We've got some lovely news to share about an inspirational five year old fundraiser, Evelyn!

She's been very busy, as her Mum Rebecca explains below…

"In March 2024 we sadly lost my Grandma Jean, a true matriarch and leader of the family. She and my Grandad Jimmy had eight children, and she was sadly widowed in 1988 and never remarried. She had 15 Grandchildren and 13 Great Grandchildren. One of those Great Grandchildren is my five year-old daughter, Evelyn.

To Evelyn and many of the Great Grandchildren, my Grandma was affectionately known as 'Ma Ma'.

Earlier this year, a month before her birthday, Evelyn was watching an episode of Bluey which mentioned fundraising and she asked what that meant. I explained that it's what Daddy does as a job, and it's when you raise money for a cause. She replied that she wanted to do fundraising "for Ma Ma's house". 'Ma Ma's house' is what she called Charles Morris House, where Grandma Jean lived before she passed.

I told her that she would need to set herself a challenge to complete, and a target to raise. She decided she wanted to do a big walk, a big cycle without stabilisers (she had never attempted this before!) and five lengths of a pool without armbands. She also decided she wanted to raise £400. I explained that £400 was a big target to have but very quickly donations started to poor in and in just 24 hours she had reached her initial target!

She then got to doing her challenge…

First, she completed a five kilometre walk around RHS Garden Bridgewater in Worsley. She had soon swum her five lengths during a visit to my sister in Sleaford. Finally, she did a bike ride around Boggart Hole Clough on her second attempt to ride without stabilisers.

All in all, she raised £600!

As a family, we are so, so proud of our very shy little girl. She has shown drive, resilience and determination in setting this very challenging mini-triathlon and what appeared to be an unachievable target.

I hope you all enjoy a few photos of her completing her challenge.

Thank you."

How amazing is that?!

A few words from our Extra Care Coordinator at Charles Morris House, Paula on behalf of everyone in that team and at MioCare…

"We are so thankful to the amazing Evelyn and her family, and to everyone that contributed money to this fundraiser. It gives us further opportunity to plan and host some great parties, like our end of summer BBQ for Charles Morris House residents and their families and friends. It comes as no surprise to us that Evelyn is such a star…it was a privilege to care for her wonderful Great Grandma, and we'll all have Jean in mind as we enjoy these events together."
