We would like to wish everyone who's celebrating, a very Happy Lunar New Year 2023.
For those that might not know, 2023 is the year of the rabbit!
More than a billion people around the world are celebrating the Lunar New Year, also often known as the Spring Festival and Chinese New Year (though it's celebrated not only by people in China but by those in many other countries too).
As the short video below explains, food is an important part of the festivities (something that didn't pass us by in both our Learning Disability Day Services; MILES@Ena Day Service and the Wellbeing Service based at Chadderton Hall Park)...
After a successful themed cooking session 12 months ago, regulars at MILES@Ena not only crafted a timely art display together while learning all about this time of year, but they were in the kitchen once more cooking Chinese food before enjoying a meal together!
With support from our team, it was Robert who lead the way with the cooking...
And it was self-appointed expert Maria who led the taste-testing; someone's got to do the tough jobs!
A menu of chicken chow mein and a traditional dessert of baked banana and ice cream, which all tastes even better when enjoyed in good company.
Over at our other Day Service based in Chadderton Hall Park, regulars Hung, Trevor and Michael took a little break from the rain to do some celebrating themselves...
Here's a quick lowdown from Stacy (Wellbeing Service Support Worker)...
"We got to know each other a bit better, looking up birthdays to find out which animal represented the year we were born in! And everyone enjoyed sampling some popular Chinese dishes including steamed pork dumplings, chicken wontons, a variety of spring rolls and prawn toast - all while listening to a playlist of traditional music."
Gong hei fat choy from all at the MioCare Group!
