Since 2011, and in partnership with local schools and employers, our Work Experience Service has been providing young people in Oldham with individual packages of experience, preparing them for working life.
A real privilege and a service the MioCare Group has been proud to deliver. A few examples of what people have said about us…
“Our pupils gained independence and experience they would not have been able to achieve without this service.” (Teacher)
“I didn’t want the experience to end. I would have liked to stay another week! I enjoyed watching the children grow and develop.” (Student)
“It’s programmes like this that has helped J become the young man he is now. Since January, J has improved week on week.” (Foster Carer)
“It’s a pleasure working with ambitious and committed young people. It’s very refreshing and rewarding not only for the young people but also the team and companies they are involved in.” (Employer)
In time for the start of this academic year though, the service is transferring over to our friends at Positive Steps, who will continue the brilliant work done by our team during the last eight years.
We’d like to put on record our thanks to that team – MioCare Group staff members Lisa, Alison and Patricia – for their dedication and hard work, as well as to the delivery team at Positive Steps who we know will make a huge success of the service going forward and all those young people, schools and employers for your partnership during our time working together.
Positive Steps already delivers over 3,500 work experience placements alongside a wider offer of employer encounters and has a track record of providing intensive support to Oldham’s young people across its services. As part of their Employment and Skills Service, Positive Steps will be providing the learner support that we at the MioCare Group previously provided. We have worked closely during the transfer to provide synergy with the current offer, so that the transition is a seamless as possible for all those involved.
Again, a big thank you to everyone who has been part of the Work Experience Service since 2011 and the very best of luck to everyone using it going forward.
We can’t wait to see young people in the borough continue to fulfil their potential!
