Our Safeguarding Champions group have been meeting regularly since last year, and in a recent get together they reflected on why they became 'champions' and why safeguarding is important to them.

We've been sharing some of their reflections on our social media pages, and below are a selection from Harrison, Suzanne, Janice, Paula, Wendy and Barry...

A few words from Harrison:

"Being a Safeguarding Champion is a pleasure and a privilege. I am passionate about my role, and the safety and wellbeing of the people we support is important to me."

A few words from Suzanne:

"I want to make a difference in my role. I feel safe and able to speak up, and I want to make sure everyone feels that way, too."

A few words from Janice:

"It's great to work with others who also want to shape and promote a safe service. We are championing effective safeguarding, acknowledging and building on best practice."

A few words from Paula:

"I'm a Safeguarding Champion because we have to get safeguarding right! Supporting people to feel safe is huge."

A few words from Wendy:

"I want to be there to help and support people in this area. This could be residents, as well as colleagues, family and friends."

A few words from Barry...

"To me, being a Safeguarding Champion means being able to recognise when there may be a need for safeguarding, knowing how to approach a situation, and knowing what help can be given."

We're grateful to our Safeguarding Champions who are undergoing further training so they can act as 'in-service' role models and be available to guide and support their teammates. Our Champions meet regularly to discuss all things ‘safeguarding’, sharing learning and experience while building on their knowledge, skill and understanding.
